Implement Data Center Interconnect with Ease and Reliability
Apstra uses advanced automation to enable you to quickly and easily cross-connect data centers. Our Intent-Based Networking approach simplifies EVPN data center interconnect design, build, deployment, and operations, and provides continuous validation of the state of your data center interconnection (DCI) across the entire life cycle, from Day 0 through Day 2. Apstra simplifies and automates the configuration and management of your EVPN overlay both within the data center or when using EVPN for data center interconnection.
With Apstra, network architects get the control and versatility they need to interconnect data centers, and network operations teams get continuous real-time validation, a single-source of truth, root-cause identification, and fast and reliable change management. Apstra works equally well in single- and multi-vendor environments.

Apstra’s Data Center Interconnect Design Options
DCI — Over the Top
With Apstra, EVPN routes are encapsulated into standard IP protocols and hidden from the underlying transport. This makes the extension of services simple and flexible and is often chosen because it can be implemented by data center teams with little to no coordination with WAN or Service Provider groups. This reduces the implementation times and internal company friction. However, the tradeoff is scalability and resilience. DCI — Gateway
With Apstra, you have the option to specify the remote EVPN gateway to be an external router, thus extending the EVPN attributes to the Gateway. This solution creates a fault domain per site, preventing failures from affecting convergence in remote sites and creating multiple fault domains. IP/MAC endpoint tables for remote sites are processed and held in state on an external router GW. WAN QoS and security can also be implemented, along with optimizations made available by the transport technology (e.g., MPLS TE). However, this solution is more operationally complex, requiring additional hardware and cost.
DCI — ASBR
With Apstra, you can choose to use the remote EVPN gateway capability or specify the remote EVPN gateway to be an ASBR WAN Edge Device. As an end-to-end EVPN, this enables uniform encapsulation and removes the dedicated gateway requirement. It is also operationally complex but has greater scalability as compared to both “DCI — Gateway” and “DCI — Over the Top.”
Eliminate EVPN Complexity with Reliable Automation
Simplify the deployment and operation of EVPN. Our single source of truth enables faster mean-time-to-resolution to identify, resolve quickly, and eventually prevent data center network issues at scale.
Advanced Data Center Interconnect Features
Data Center Interconnect Automation
Simplify the design, build, deployment, operations, and troubleshooting of your data center interconnection with intelligent automation. Apstra automation also eliminates EVPN complexity when extending Layer 2 and Layer 3 services between data centers.
Active/Active Application Set-up
Run active/active application set-ups with automated EVPN VXLAN data center interconnection.
Validate intent starting on Day 0 and continuing to Day 2.
Root Cause Troubleshooting
Quickly identify root causes, detect anomalies, and troubleshoot EVPN, traffic, and gateways.
Variable Routing Policies
Easily account for different routing policies based on the overlay networks you’re connecting.
Ensure that security policies at one data center will not conflict with policies at another data center.
